Robbery Results in Attempted Murder Charges for Roanoke Rapids Man
April 24, 2023

On 4/16/2023, deputies with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Orange Blossom Trail in Roanoke Rapids in reference to an individual that had been stabbed. The investigation revealed that the victim was approached by the suspect, who assaulted them with a knife and also brandished a firearm. During the struggle, the suspect stabbed the victim in the face. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money from the victim and fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was transported to another medical facility for further advanced medical treatment.
 
During the investigation, conducted by Deputy C. Watkins, it was learned that Lawrence Clinton Johnson III (AKA: “LJ”) (28) of Roanoke Rapids was the suspect in this case. Deputy Watkins obtained warrants on Johnson for Attempted First Degree Murder (F), Robbery with A Dangerous Weapon (F), Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury (F), and Assault by Pointing a Gun.
 
At the time of this release, Johnson has not been apprehended for this crime and two other outstanding misdemeanor larceny offenses in Halifax County from earlier in 2023. Johnson should be considered armed and dangerous. If you know of his whereabouts, please do not approach them.
